Providing true piano touch and tone, the YDP-161B is perfect for beginners and experienced pianists alike. The half-damper effect gives players expressive control over sustained sounds when pedaling for a more realistic acoustic piano experience. The two-track song recorder, which captures and reproduces any performance, is ideal as both a musical scratch pad and for using built-in recordings of standard piano repertoire during practice.
Another great feature is the ability to mute either hand of the 50 preset songs, letting players practice each hand independently at their own tempo until they're ready to put the two parts together. Dual headphone jacks allow two people to sit at the instrument and play, practice or teach in privacy without making a sound out of the speaker system. The entire instrument is covered by Yamaha's Rock Solid Reliance warranty covering both parts and labor for three years, which is an exceptional time period for both the home electronics and musical instrument industries.
Graded Hammer (GH) action
On a traditional acoustic piano, lower notes have a heavier touch while higher notes have a lighter touch. Graded Hammer action works the same way: heavier touch low, lighter touch high. GH also features an extra key sensor which makes it possible to reproduce fast, repetitive, single-note playing.
Variable Touch Sensitivity
Allows you to match your playing style to the response of the instrument. Chose one of three levels: soft, medium and hard or turn sensitivity off for organ-style playing.
Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo Sampling
AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system which creates the realism of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument sound and applying high-quality digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound created by playing the key of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. The AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling can produce such dynamic nuances by recording samples of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression.
128-note polyphony
128-note polyphony allows you to play dense, legato passages without dropouts...even while playing dual-layered sounds.
Damper Resonance
Damper Resonance samples add the rich, broadening tones produced by using the pedal. These complex and nuanced details add to the realism of the overall piano tone.
Half-Pedal Control
Emulating the behavior of a traditional sustain pedal, half-pedal control allows the sustain length to vary incrementally depending on how far the pedal is pressed. The more the pedal is pressed, the more the sound sustains.
Song Recorder
Got a great idea for a song? The built-in two-track song recorder is great way to capture your music. Hit record and capture your inspiration while it's fresh. It's also an excellent practice aid. Record each hand of a difficult piece to separate tracks and rehearse each part independantly until perfected.
50 Preset Piano Songs
A selection of 50 different piano songs is provided for your listening pleasure. These recordings were chosen for their beauty as well as their functionality. Since many of the songs are classic piano pieces, anyone taking lessons can listen to them for reference.
Dual Headphone Jacks
Plug in two sets of headphones for private lessons at home or practicing duets at any time.
